Lenovo ThinkPad X-series and X1: Compact design, less standardization
X270, X280, X390, X1 Carbon — compactness means fewer shared parts even within the same series.
Why the X-series is less standardized than the T-series
Compact models (X270/X280/X390, X1 Carbon/Yoga) have a denser component layout — the manufacturer more frequently changes the form factor of parts between models to fit into a smaller chassis. This means a lower probability of part interchangeability between successive models compared to larger T-series models.
X1 Carbon — each generation is unique
The X1 Carbon is updated annually (Gen 3, Gen 5, Gen 7, etc.), and almost every generation has its own revision of the display panel, keyboard, and cooler. The designation "X1 Carbon" alone is not enough to select a part — the generation is also required.
X390 Yoga and convertibles
Convertible models (Yoga versions with a rotating screen) have additional features — a touch display panel, and hinges of a different design for 360° rotation, which makes them even less compatible with classic X-series models.
How to select a part for the X-series from us
Specify the exact model and generation (e.g., "X1 Carbon Gen 7", not just "X1 Carbon") — this is critical for correct selection.
