How long do batteries and SSDs in used laptops really last?

The most common fear when buying used electronics is whether key wear-and-tear components will last.

Battery: What determines real lifespan

A battery wears out through charging cycles, not calendar age. A lithium-ion battery that has been barely used (e.g., a laptop stored turned off in a closet) may have a higher remaining capacity than a newer battery in terms of calendar age but that has been actively used.

Lapto.de's battery warranty threshold

Lapto.de guarantees a remaining capacity no lower than a set threshold (75-80% of nominal) at the time of sale. More details can be found in a separate article about batteries. This means you are buying a verified, not just "any," battery condition.

SSD: Why wear is less critical than it seems

SSDs have a much higher rewrite endurance than the average user will exhaust over years of office/home use. Wear becomes a problem primarily with intensive tasks (servers, databases), not in typical use.

How Lapto.de checks before selling

Every drive is checked for SMART indicators (real condition, not just age) before being put up for sale. Devices with alarming indicators are not sold without replacing the drive.

What to do if you're still concerned

You can order an SSD upgrade immediately upon purchase or later through our repair service (more details in the article about SSD upgrades).
