Service Tag / Asset Tag: як визначити модель, якщо клієнт її не знає

Не кожен клієнт пам'ятає точну модель свого ноутбука — ці ідентифікатори допомагають визначити її однозначно.

TITLE: Service Tag / Asset Tag: How to identify the model if the customer doesn't know it EXCERPT: Not every customer remembers the exact model of their laptop — these identifiers help to determine it unambiguously.

ARTICLE MARKDOWN:

What are Service Tag and Asset Tag

Service Tag (Dell's term) and similar identifiers from other manufacturers are unique serial codes that can unambiguously identify the exact model, configuration, and sometimes even the manufacturing date of a device through the manufacturer's website or specialized databases.

Where to find these identifiers

  • Sticker on the bottom cover of the laptop (most common location)
  • In BIOS/UEFI (System Information section)
  • In Windows: command prompt, command wmic bios get serialnumber or
Get-CimInstance -ClassName Win32_BIOS in PowerShell

What to do if the sticker is worn off

If the physical sticker is unreadable, the serial number is usually still available programmatically through the BIOS or operating system — ask the customer to check using one of the software methods above.

How we use this information

Knowing the exact Service Tag, you can unambiguously determine the laptop's configuration (processor, original components) on the manufacturer's website — this eliminates ambiguity when the customer only remembers the general model name but does not know the exact version or revision.
