Budget Tips: How to Get the Most for Your Money

A few practical rules that genuinely impact the price-to-value ratio when choosing a used laptop.

Rule 1: Don't overpay for a CPU generation you won't notice

The difference between adjacent Core i5 generations for office tasks is often imperceptible in practice, while the price difference is significant. Overpaying for the latest generation is only justified for tasks that genuinely stress the processor.

Rule 2: RAM and SSD are more important than a "fancy" CPU model in the name

Upgrading from an HDD to an SSD or adding RAM provides a more noticeable performance boost in daily work than a higher processor model number.

Rule 3: Grade C saves significantly if aesthetics aren't critical

Cosmetic condition does not affect technical reliability (see article on choosing a Grade) — this is the easiest way to save money without compromising quality.

Rule 4: Check what's included in the warranty

A 12-month warranty on all devices (regardless of Grade or price) is already included in the price at Lapto.de, unlike buying from individuals where there's usually no warranty at all.

Rule 5: Don't be afraid of older business models

Business laptops are designed for durability — a several-year-old model with an SSD and sufficient RAM is often more productive for the same budget than a newer, budget consumer laptop.
